Last weekend, Joe Barr set an incredible three records when he undertook the epic challenge of racing from the northernmost point of Ireland (Malin Head) to the southernmost point (Mizen Head) and back again. In doing so, he set the fastest Malin Head – Mizen Head – Malin Head, the fastest North – South in 23 hours 20 mins, the fastest South to North in 25 hours and 40 mins. His total Malin – Mizen – Malin record is 49 hrs.

It was an absolutely incredible performance by Barr and his support crew. The Ulsterman had to contend with not only the mammoth distance of 1244 kilometres, but also tough winds and sleep deprivation. He went without sleep for the entire duration of the race. His next target is a podium finish in the 2016 Race Across America.

“I’d to thank the crew who had to work an intensely pressured three days. They were extremely fatigued yet managed to push me through the entire race. I’d to thank our supporters who made the journey to Mizen head and those on our social media pages that gave me the drive to break the record. I’d like to dedicate the record to my two sons Reuben and Ross who helped me celebrate fathers day at the finish line .” – Joe Barr
