Jan Bakelants has managed to escape the Tour de France for a short time to meet his five-day old daughter.
The Belgian rider tweeted: “After 5 long days, finally I can hold my little princess in my arms. Thank you @AG2RLAMONDIALEc for making leave”
His daughter Julia was born two weeks early and actually arrived while Jan was racing the eleventh stage of the race.
The Ag2R-La Mondiale rider has now taken advantage of the Tour’s second rest day to go and visit his daughter with his team allowing to leave the team hotel for the night.
Bakelants currently sits in 42nd place overall. He returns to Berne later today in advance of tomorrow’s seventeenth stage from the Swiss capital to Finhaut-Emosson.
