Critérium du Dauphiné winner Jakob Fuglsang has been diagnosed with a fractured collarbone after crashing in a criterium in Herning, Denmark.

It was the first race for the Dane since he abandoned the Tour de France on the thirteenth stage. Fuglsang had been suffering with two fractures sustained on Stage 11, a wrist fracture and one near his elbow.

His Astana team released the following statement: “Right after the crash Fuglsang was moved to the hospital for the medical checking. A fracture in the left collarbone was diagnosed.

Today, Jakob Fuglsang will be transferred to Belgium in the hospital of Herentals, where tomorrow morning the rider will have a surgery, which will be done by Dr. Toon Claes.

Information about recovery time will appear after the surgery.”
