According to Wikipedia, “Duathlon is an athletic event that consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg in a format bearing some resemblance to triathlons.”

The British Elite Duathlon Championships were due to take place at Rockingham Motor Racing Circuit in Northamptonshire on Sunday.

Competitors were due to complete a 5km run, a 20km cycle and a 2.5km run in a multi-lap format around the circuit which combines sweeping bends and high-speed straights.

However, fierce winds forced the organisers to change the format in the junior women’s and both senior races. They decided that it was too dangerous for the bike leg. Despite no cycle in the event, they changed the format to a 10km run. To us, that doesn’t sound so much like duathlon as it does like running. Mark Buckingham and Emma Pallant were crowned the Senior champions.
