An Italian cycling website found out the route of the 2016 Giro d’Italia five days ahead of the official launch. Cicloweb determined that the route for next year’s race could be viewed by the public by changing the year in the official race URL to 2016.
It had been previously been announced that the opening stages of the race would take place in the Netherlands with the Grand Partenza in Apeldoorn. The race starts with a 9.8 kilometre individual time trial followed by two road stages in the country before moving to Italy.
The 13th stage, a mountainous route from Palmanova to Cividale del Friuli had also been previously revealed, but the other stages had not. Other stages of interest include a 40-kilometre time trial in Chianti and a mountainous time-trial to Alpe di Siusi.
Amongst the other mountainous stages will be Stage 14 from Alpago (Farra) to Corvara (Alta Badia) and Stage 18 from Muggiò to Pinerolo.
