Irish junior cyclocross champion David Conroy (Scott-Eurocycles) is amongst the riders who have been taking part in a training camp at the UCI World Cycling Centre this week.

The camp runs from June 14 to 19 at the centre in Aigle, Switzerland and the riders are being coached by the Belgian stars Sven Nys and Sven Vanthourenhout.

The camp is headed up by the USA National Cyclocross Head Coach Geoff Proctor and it is aimed at riders from developing cyclocross nations.

The riders are taking part in three training sessions a day that include conditioning, technical training and road riding as well as classroom sessions after dinner each evening.

It’s a great opportunity for the young Irish to learn from the best. In addition to winning the Irish championships, Conroy also took part in the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships in Heusden-Zolder last season as well as a number of UCI World Cups.

Nys and Vanthourenhout raced together on the Crelan-AA Drink team prior to Nys’ retirement at the end of the season. The Belgian rider is considered one of the best riders the sport has seen taking numerous World Cup and Superprestige victories as well as the World Championships.
