Twelve Irish riders are in Cali, Colombia this weekend for the first round of the UCI World Cup.

The action begins this afternoon with qualifying for the Women’s Team Pursuit where four riders from Lydia Boylan, Lauren Creamer, Josie Knight, Caroline Ryan and Melanie Späth will line up for their 4km effort which is due to start at 4pm, Irish time.

The men’s Team Pursuit quartet will be selected from Mark Downey, Felix English, Martyn Irvine, Marc Potts and Fintan Ryan to get their bid for glory under way 6.50pm, Irish time.

Felix English also goes in the Points Race later in the programme with the possibility that he will be joined by another member of the Irish men’s endurance squad.

On Saturday, Martyn Irvine rides the Men’s Individual Pursuit while Caroline Ryan and Lydia Boylan go for Ireland in the Women’s Scratch Race.

Sunday’s action gets under way with the qualifying heats of the Men’s Sprint competition with Eoin Mullen in action followed by Shannon McCurley in the Women’s Keirin.

Action in Colombia concludes with the Men’s 30km Madison on Sunday evening with Mark Downey paired with Fintan Ryan.

Team Technical Director Brian Nugent: “After such a great start to the season at the European Championships, we are looking forward to keeping the momentum going here in Cali. We have a really strong group this year and our goal is to progress in each World Cup.”
