Irish Riders Jack Wilson, David Montgomery and Connor McConvey have all been named as part of a strong An Post contingent that will be in action on Friday in Belgium at Handzame Classic (1.1), located in Flanders region.

The Irish based outfit look to be in a strong position heading in Friday’s 195 kilometre race having only one injury concern with Oliver Kent-Spark still unavailable due to a short term knee injury. Other than the young Australian, who is expected to make a full recovery in the coming weeks, Directeur Sportif Kurt Bogaerts has a full deck to choose from.

Emiel Wastyn, in particular, has been in top form recently having put in some strong performances in the Netherlands last week in Ronde van Drenthe (1.1.) and Rucphen (1.2). The Belgian sprinter was in the mix for large parts of the race and Bogaerts is confident that he it’s only a matter of time before he will take up a podium spot soon.

“Emiel (Wastyn) has been in top form recently. Last week he was in the breakaway for large parts of Rucphen just falling short in the last few kilometres. He’s extremely quick so if he can just get himself in a position for a sprint finish, we’d be confident that he can be in a position to win.”

The 13th edition of the Belgian race begins with a flat start in Breden before three tricky signature cobble climbs with hilly parts thereafter. The riders end the race by completing an exciting three lap 18 kilometre circuit. Bogaerts says his team is in a confident mood facing into the race;

“Morale is sky high at the moment and the team are really enjoying their cycling, which is really important. If you look at our results from this year so far, they have been excellent. I am delighted with the general level and condition of the team. If we keep the momentum going and I think this is another race that will provide us with another opportunity to do really well.”

An Post Chain Reaction team will next compete in Tour de Normandie (2.2) in France next week 21st – 27th of March.
