The UCI have announced the quotas for the various races in the UCI Road World Championships which will take place in Doha, Qatar in October and Ireland have been awarded three places for the Elite Men’s Road Race.

Australia, Belgium, Colombia, France, Great Britain, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and Spain have been awarded the maximum number of 9 starters. Reigning World Champion Peter Sagan (Slovakia) will have just two team-mates to help him in his bid to recapture the rainbow jersey.

The Elite Men’s Road Race is the final race of the week and takes place on Sunday October 16th, and the riders will take on a flat course of 257.5 kilometres which includes seven laps of a 15.2-kilometre finishing circuit.

Just two Irish riders started in last year’s World RR Championship in Richmond, USA. Conor Dunne infiltrated the early break and was away for much of the day, while Sam Bennett finished in 40th position just 40 seconds behind race winner Sagan.
