Foyle Cycling Club’s annual Inishowen 100 sportive took place on Sunday 21 August with over 350 riders from all over Ireland participating. Riders from Antrim, Armagh, Ballina, Ballyclare, Belfast, Bray, Dublin, Fermanagh, Lisburn, Naas, Omagh, Swords and Westport were part of an early start from Derry’s Sports Complex, before completing the circuit around Inishowen.
With the rain holding off until late afternoon when most riders had completed the route, many riders commented on the majestic scenery along the route between Lough Swilly and Lough Foyle, with the epic climbs of Mamore Gap and Kinnego Bay overlooking the North Sea sandwiched in between.
Foyle Cycling Club PRO, Ronan Gallagher, praised everyone who took part: “this is one of the toughest cycling sportives anywhere in Ireland. For many of the riders it was their first time in Derry and Inishowen, with many remarking on the striking coastline and great hospitality shown throughout the day. Everyone who rode today deserves praise for completing the sportive.”
