This video produced by Carlton Reid (editor of www.bikebiz.com) is really good at explaining the reasons why motorists need to give adequate space when overtaking cyclists.
The film features 1992 Olympic Pursuit champion Chris Boardman and driving instructor Blaine Walsh, who explain amongst other things, how cyclists may need to avoid damage to road surfaces and that motorists need to be aware of this.
It also shows examples of some really dangerous overtaking manoeuvres in addition to footage of how overtaking of cyclists should take place.
