The Irish Cycling Championships took place over the weekend, with the Senior Men’s Race being won by domestic-based rider Damien Shaw (Team Asea) who had broken clear with Eddie Dunbar (NFTO) in the closing stages of the race. Coming towards thefinish, Shaw went clear of his younger breakaway companion to finish over a minute clear. Dunbar took silver and also the U23 title, while Conor Dunne (An Post-Chain Reaction) took third.

The three riders had been part of a break which many of the pre-race favourites including Ryan Mullen (An Post-Chain Reaction), Matt Brammeier (MTN-Qhubeka) and Martyn Irvine (Madison-Genesis) had missed out on.

Here’s a highlights video of what proved to be a very exciting race.
