The Irish Men’s and Women’s Elite Road Race Championships which were hosted by Scott Orwell Wheelers in Kilcullen, Co. Kildare took place yesterday with Lydia Boylan (Team WNT) and Nicolas Roche (Team Sky) emerging victorious.

Boylan took the win in a sprint finish with Eve McCrystal (ASEA Wheelworx) claiming silver and Fiona Meade (Blarney Stone CC) taking the bronze medal.

Roche meanwhile took the win after breaking clear on his own to win solo from four other riders – Matt Brammeier (Dimension Data), Michael O’Loughlin (Team WIGGINS), Connor McConvey and Damien Shaw (An Post Chain Reaction).

These five riders had been part of an eight-man breakaway which had gone clear early on which also included Daire Feeley (Team iTap), Eddie Dunbar (Axeon Hagens Berman) and Mark Downey (VC Toucy). O’Loughlin claimed the U23 title ahead of Downey and Feeley.
