We posted earlier that Matt Brammeier (MTN-Qhubeka) was focused on winning a particular prize at the Tour of Flanders today.

It had been announced that the first rider to pass through the village of Sint Eloois Winkel after 34kms would win his weight in beer. Brammeier had shown his intent by placing a label on his handlebars with the race distance where the prize was to be won (as seen below).

Sint Eloois Winkel is home to Gulden Spoor Brouwerij who produce Steene Molen. Brammeier kept his eye on the prize, managing to be first rider through the village, thereby winning 73 litres of Steene Molen. He’s also in the break of day, so impressive riding by the Irishman.

Steene Molen, by the way, is 7.5% and is described as a “Belgian golden blond high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation in the bottle. It has a soft hopped flavor, slightly bitter and with quite a dry finish.”
