Following on from the announcement yesterday that the new UCI Continental team – Dynamo Cover Pro Cycling – would not be starting next season as planned, a gofundme account has been set up to help support Irish rider Philip Lavery.

Lavery came close to a top-level contract with Cofidis in 2013. Following on from a successful stint with AC Bisontine, where he notched up numerous wins including the Prix des Vallons in Schweighouse-sur-Moder, a stage of the Tour de Franche-Comté, Le Souvenir Jean Lacroix and the Tour du Charolais, in addition to finishing in second place in the National Championships, he earned a stagiaire contract with Cofidis.

During his time with the French team, he finished 15th on a stage of the Tour du Poitou Charentes (UCI 2.1) and 16th in Châteauroux Classic de l’Indre Trophée Fenioux (UCI 1.1).

He had been told that he would get a place with Cofidis if they received a WorldTour licence, as they had hoped. However, that didn’t come to fruition and Lavery returned to Ireland.

Having stepped away from the sport for a time, Lavery had hoped that the new Dynamo Cover Pro Cycling team would be an opportunity for him to realise his ambition of a top level contract, but the new yesterday was a big blow to Lavery and the rest of the team.
