Team Sky’s Gianni Moscon suffered a bizarre crash at Tirreno-Adriatico today when his front tri-spoke wheel collapsed causing him to crash, Fortunately though, he was OK and escaped with just bruises and road rash.
Speaking after the stage, Team Sky Doctor Inigo Sarriegui confirmed Gianni was OK. He said: “Gianni lost a lot of skin in the crash but he doesn’t appear to have any further injuries. He should be good to go tomorrow.”
Moscon said afterwards that the collapse happened after he hit a hole in the road.
The 22.7-kilometre test was won by BMC Racing in a time of 23’20”. Quick Step Floors were second fastest, 17″ down with FDJ in third at 22″. Team Sky finished in 18th place, 1’42” off the pace.
