New Zealander George Bennett did well to stay upright on the final climb of today’s Tour de France stage.
The LottoNL-Jumbo rider was rounding a bend on the climb to Arcalis when he shouldered a spectator who was standing on the road.
The spectator fell whilst Bennett was forced to go wide but managed to avoid falling on the slippy surface. The incident follows on from the clash between an over-enthusiastic spectator and Chris Froome on yesterday’s stage.
The Tour organsiers have this evening once again asked spectators to show respect to the riders as they posted the following message:
“⚠ The Tour de France is a great event, please respect the riders ⚠”

When the shoulder drops the bullshit stops.
These idiots dressed up like the Pope running alongside blessing the riders, etc All need the Froome treatment. Control the route or don’t bitch when a rider takes it into his own hands.
Channeling #sonnybill
what the heck is wrong with you guys? an act of violence is never a good way to react
How would you react if someone interfered with you making your salary and putting your health at risk?
for sure i would’t punch him…
Without fans there would be no professional cycling.if you start hitting fans you are putting your job and salary at risk.froomes actions can’t be justified by any sane person.saying it’s ok for him to hit someone is saying he is above the law
Or not. He’s been fined. Hopefully the message will start getting across that it’s not acceptable, same as streakers at football or idiots swimming across the boat race course. Where’s the punishment for the idiot spectator? If froome could reach him like that he was too close and interfering.
Andy Lyle so going by your logic it should be quite OK for a spectator to punch a cyclist if the cyclist comes too close and is interfering with them.
