This weekend will see national road race championships take place around Europe with the French Elite Men’s race scheduled to take place on Sunday morning in Vesoul in the Haute-Saône department.

The race was originally due to start at 10.40am local time but will now start at 9.00am instead. This is to avoid a clash with the France versus Ireland match at Euro 2016 which kicks off at 15.00 CET.

However, the decision to avoid clashing with the football match has not pleased everyone. Cofidis sprinter Nacer Bouhanni who won the National Championships back in 2012 took to Twitter to express his disappointment.

“Why not organise a nocturne?” Bouhanni asked sarcastically before bemoaning the early start to the day that would be needed before taking on a 250-kilometre race.
