In advance of the upcoming UCI Cyclocross World Championships which take place in Luxembourg at the end of the month, Specialized have been exploring why the discipline is loved so much and the result is this short film – ‘For the Love of Cross’.

The film features British champion Nikki Brammeier, Danish rider and former Junior MTB World Champion Simon Andreassen and Christine Majerus from Luxembourg who share their thoughts on the what makes cyclocross just as much a religion as a sport. The three riders also describe the passion of the fans for the sport which draws massive crowds in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The film includes footage from the sixth round of the Telenet UCI World Cup round which took place in Namur, Belgium last month where Katerina Nash won the women’s race and Mathieu van der Poel took victory in the men’s race.

“Cross is a crazy sport. There’s nothing that compares to it,”
says Brammeier. “It’s heavy on the body, it’s heavy on the mind; but at the same time it’s so beautiful to be a part of cyclocross,”

“I always say that road racing is my job, and cyclocross is my passion,” says Majerus. “It’s completely unpredictable. It’s all depending on the lap, on the weather, who’s on the start and also a lot of luck.”
