Round 5 of the Ulster Cyclo-cross Series took place recently in St. Columb’s Park, Derry with separate races organised for underage categories from U6 to U16, Women’s, Men’s A and B races in addition to MTB Support races.

Race Director was former An Post Chain Reaction rider Ronan McLaughlin, who was also racing himself in the Men’s A Race. Unfortunately for the Donegal man, he broke his derailleur when he was sitting in second place.

Despite the mechanical, he was delighted with how the event went.

“This was my first event as a race director,” said McLaughlin. “Fantastically well attended, brilliantly supported by the council and some cracking racing.”

The Men’s A race was contested over six laps of the circuit and was won by another former An Post rider, David Montgomery. Barry Kellett (Dromara Cycling Club) finished second with Graham Boyd (McConvey Cycles) in third.

In the Women’s Race, Julie Rea (Phoenix CC) took the win with Trudy Brown finishing second, despite turning up late for the start.
