Toy manufacturer Fisher-Price have this week unveiled The Think & Learn Smart Cycle – a stationary bike for toddlers. The exercise bike with a tablet holder attached to the handlebars works with a companion app so toddlers can play educational games while pedalling.

The bike which is aimed at 3 to 6 year-olds was unveiled at CES 2017 – the consumer electronics and consumer technology tradeshow in Las Vegas.

It comes with one free app which can be downloaded on Android or iOS and four others including SpongeBob Squarepants are available to purchase at $4.99 each. The app content will be synchronized to the speed of the Smart Cycle’s pedaling, which puts the preschooler in charge of the pace of learning.

“They’re learning and mastering content as they pedal, fast or slow, forwards or backwards,” Amber Pietrobono, a spokeswoman with Fisher-Price, told CNNMoney. “It’s also how they level up in the games.”

“Inspired by the insight that preschoolers learn best and retain more when they’re active and having a good time, we’ve reimagined the Think & Learn Smart Cycle for a new generation of children,” said Nitya Madhavan, vice president of marketing for Fisher-Price. “We hope today’s families will be excited for this platform that channels preschoolers’ energy and their fascination with technology to make learning fun!”

The Smart Cycle costs $149.99 and will be available in the US from June 2017.
