Yesterday’s Ghent-Wevelgem turned out to be a great race. 90kmph winds caused havoc as they blew the race apart. Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) was blown off the road at one stage.
Jurgen Roelandts (Lotto-Soudal) went clear after the first ascent of the Kemmelberg, but with 75 kilometres still remaining.
A strong group formed behind made up of Thomas, Luca Paolini (Katusha), Niki Terpstra and Stijn Vandenbergh (Etixx-Quick-Step), Sep Vanmarcke (LottoNL-Jumbo) and Jens Debusschere (Lotto-Soudal).
The 239-kilometre race would be fought out amongst these riders. Here’s footage of the last 40 kilometres.
