For the second year in a row, Dutch rider Ellen van Dijk has been crowned the European time trial champion after taking the victory in Denmark today.

With the parcours perfectly suited to her strengths, van Dijk dominated the 31.5 kilometre course, setting the fastest time at each intermediate check-point.

After powerfully navigating her way around the route in challenging weather conditions, the Team Sunweb Rider stormed past her rivals taking the victory by just under one minute, stopping the clock with a time of 40 minutes and 33 seconds.

Belgium’s Ann-sophie Duyck claimed the silver medal, 58″ behind Van Dijk with Anna van der Breggen of the Netherlands taking bronze, a further 6″down.

After the win van Dijk said: “I’m really happy to prolong my title. It’s always special to win something like this and I feel proud to wear the jersey. The course suited me well and I felt I had good legs. There were long straights with some small hills and the rain made some of the corners more challenging. Luckily I was going really well so didn’t have to take any risks and managed to get around safe to take the title again.”
