Edvald Boasson Hagen (Team Dimension Data) stormed to victory on stage two at the Tour of Norway, on a day that marked the Norwegian’s birthday and the Norwegian Constitution Day. Second on the stage was Sondre Holst Enger (Israel Cycling Academy) and Alex Aranburu (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA) placed 3rd.

Stage two at the Tour of Norway was a lumpy, 146km stage running from Hønefoss to Asker. The stage included 2 category three climbs, with a number of other uncategorised undulations throughout the stage.

A break of four riders went clear from the peloton after a fast start to racing. They extended their lead to just over three minutes during the course of the stage. Team Dimension Data riders worked hard at the front of the peloton, constantly controlling the break in order to set up Boasson Hagen for the finale and with 18km to go, they had succeeded in reeling the breakaway back in.

Leading into the final kilometres, Team Dimension Data held their position near the front of the peloton, maintaining the optimal position for Edvald Boasson Hagen. The powerful Norwegian then managed to outsprint Enger and Aranburu for the stage. With today’s stage win, Boasson Hagen moved into second in the overall race classification behind Enger.

Edvald Boasson Hagen – I did it last year on the same finish, so I knew what to do and it worked out well today, so I am really happy. The team did well today, they did a great job in the end. It’s really fantastic. I had to dig pretty deep, it was a hard finish, but it’s really worth it when you win it.”
