Orica-BikeExchange rider Adam Yates suffered a cut chin today at the Tour de France when the inflatable arches holding the flame rouge collapsed.

The entire road was blocked by the collapsed inflatable which took place just as the main GC riders approached the kilometre-to-go marker.

Yates hit the inflatable arches and could be seen after the collision sitting on the road with a deep cut to his chin.

Spectators and race support staff then attempted to move the arches from the road. Although riders were held up by the collapse, it won’t affect any GC times, as the riders had already passed under the 3km-to-go banner.

The stage was won by Steve Cummings (Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka).
