Domenico Pozzovivo (Team Bahrain Merida) maintained his third place overall following the stage 16 individual time-trial at the Giro d’Italia after finishing in 33rd position. Afterwards he expressed his satisfaction with his performance.

Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing) won the stage between Trento and Rovereto and the Australian was fastest at each intermediate check point and finished with a time of 40:00. The runner up was Tony Martin (Katusha-Alpecin) with Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) finishing in third place.

The race leader Simon Yates (Mitchelton Scott) crossed the finish line with a time of 41:37 to limit his loses against defending champion Dumoulin. The Briton finished in 22nd place, to maintain a lead of 56″ over DuMoulin.

Domenico Pozzovivo kept his third position overall by racing to 33rd place finishing 2 minutes and 20 seconds behind Rohan Dennis. This was enough to keep his third position overall and he sits 3′ 11″ behind Yates and Pozzovivo is now looking ahead towards the upcoming mountain stages with high ambitions.

“Yes I’m satisfied,” said Pozzovivo after the race. “It was a very flat time trial. I tried to manage my effort and wanted to be most regular as possible. I think it is good to keep the podium position. Three mountain stages are ahead of me and I want to improve and stay at the podium. Especially the Friday and Saturday stages might be suitable for me”.
