Dan Martin (Cannondale Garmin) is amongst the favourites lining up in the UCI 1.HC Trofeo Laigueglia today. It follows on from a training camp in Mallorca, where he also made his season debut in Challenge Ciclista Mallorca.
Amongst others who may be in contention are Rinaldo Nocentini (AG2R La Mondiale), Thomas Voeckler (Team Europcar), Damiano Cunego (Nippo Vini Fantini) and Martin’s team mate, Moreno Moser, who won the race in 2012.
The race is hilly, featuring 2,775 metres over the 191 kilometre course which will suit Martin. The final climb of Colla Micheri comes inside the final 10 kilometres.
Although the Irishman is one of the strongest riders lining up, he has struggled with illness in recent weeks, so his form might be as good as he had hoped.
