Damien Shaw has been ruled out of starting the Elite Men’s Road Race at the UCI World Road Championships in Bergen, Norway tomorrow due to injury. Cycling Ireland announced the news this evening.

It would have marked the Mullingar man’s debut at the race and his selection on the team was a reflection of his impressive performances this season.

In April, the An Post-Chain Reaction rider won the opening stage of the Tour du Loir et Cher (2.2) before going on to finish sixth overall. He also finished fifth overall at An Post Rás (2.2) in May.

The team will now line up with five riders – Conor Dunne, Dan Martin, Shaw’s An Post team-mate Sean McKenna, Ryan Mullen and Nicolas Roche.

The riders will face 276.5 kilometres consisting of an initial 40 kilometres before they enter the 19.1-kilometre finishing circuit which they will tackle 12 times.
