Cycling Ireland have announced the Elite Men’s and Women’s teams for the forthcoming UCI Road World Championships in Bergen, Norway from the 17-24 September.

WorldTour riders Nicolas Roche (BMC Racing), Dan Martin (Quick Step Floors) and Ryan Mullen (Cannondale-Drapac) are included in the six-man team with An Post Chain Reaction duo Sean McKenna and Damien Shaw and Aqua Blue Sport’s Conor Dunne completing the team. Roche will also line up in the time-trial.

Ireland qualified a six-man team for the first time thanks to their high placing in the UCI World Rankings.

Multiple national champion Lydia Boylan will line up in the Women’s Road Race with Eileen Burns contesting the time-trial.

Both Roche and Dunne recently completed the Vuelta a Espana, which was Dunne’s first Grand Tour. Roche’s team won the opening stage team time-trial and he went on to have a number of top ten placings in the race before finishing 14th overall.

Dan Martin recently made his comeback at the Tour of Britain following his recovery from injuries sustained in a high-speed crash at the Tour de France. Mullen, Shaw and McKenna also took part in the Tour of Britain which finished at the weekend with Mullen finishing 10th overall.
