Cycling Ireland have nine riders competing in the 2017 UEC Track Elite European Championships which take place in Berlin, Germany from 18-22 October.
Racing commences today for the team, which is a mix of experienced riders like Mark Downey, Felix English and Lydia Gurley, as well as junior riders JB Murphy and Xeno Young.
It has been a very successful year for Irish track cyclists and the team will be hoping for more success in Berlin. Amongst the highlights have been Felix English and Mark Downey winning gold in the Madison at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Los Angeles, Lydia Gurley’s bronze medal win in the Women’s Scratch Race in the third round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Cali, Colombia and Downey’s gold in the Men’s Points Race in Cali.
The junior riders have also excelled with Xeno Young winning silver in the Individual Pursuit and JB Murphy winning bronze in the Points Race at the Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Montichiari, Italy.
