The head coach of Cycling Ireland, Brian Nugent, has been nominated for the Philips Sports Manager of the Year award. The winner will be announced later today.

The award has been going since 1982, and amongst the previous winners are Jack Charlton, Eddie Jordan, Ger Loughnane, Sean Boylan and Declan Kidney.

Nugent has been involved with development and High Performance coaching since 2006, and prior to becoming Head Coach, he role was National Performance Coach, where he specialised in paracycling. Irish cyclists won 15 medals at World and European level across various disciplines this year under the watch of Nugent.

Amongst those who are also nominated for this year’s award are Pete Taylor and Joe Schmidt.
