On the 8th of September, a group of friends have decided to complete a cycle around Ireland in memory of the four crew members who tragically lost their lives on the 14th of March 2017 when the Dublin based Irish Coast Guard Helicopter R116 crashed off the Mayo Coast.

The cycle has been named 4 Days in September and the group of friends are all members of the emergency services who work alongside the Irish Coast Guard on a daily basis and who would have been friendly with some of the helicopter crew who lost their lives.

Each Day will have a separate significance with day one remembering Dara Fitzpatrick, day two remembering Paul Ormsby, day three remembering Ciarán Smith and day four in remembrance of Mark Duffy.

Each day will also have a different charity associated with it, which are as follows:
• Dunmore East First Responders
• Dogs for the Disabled
• Pieta House South East
• Aoibheann’s Pink Tie

Donations can be made directly to the charities by logging onto www.idonate.ie/4daysinseptember

It is planned that a core group of cyclists, supported by 10 crew will cycle approximately 800 kilometres in four days in aid of the four charities. Other cyclists will be encouraged to join them for the shorter legs of the event as they travel around Ireland. The average speed is expected to be 26kmh. As a cyclist, you must register to participate in the event and you will be responsible for your own accommodation during the event.

The cycle itself will leave Waterford Airport on the 8th of September and the cyclists will cycle to Dublin Airport, Sligo Airport and Shannon Airport arriving back in Waterford on the 11th of September. The 11th of September is an important day in Waterford City because the Holy Family Church hosts the 9/11 mass in memory of Twin Towers terror attack.
