Lotto-Soudal manager Marc Sergeant hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Philippe Gilbert joining the team for the 2017 season.

Sergeant spoke about the possibility to Het Nieuwsblad and he said: “Nothing is impossible. Philippe always said he wanted to finish his career with the team where he obtained the most success.”

And it was on that team where the Belgian did enjoy most success. His best season of his career was in 2011 when he achieved an incredible triple Amstel Gold Race – Flèche Wallonne – Liège-Bastogne-Liège triple. Later on that season, he won the national championships, a stage of the Tour de France, Clásica de San Sebastián, as well as the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec.

However, the major stumbling block in signing Gilbert would be meeting his salary expectations. His current salary is said to be in the region of €3 million per year.
