Chris Froome (Team Sky) was fined yesterday by race judges 200 CHF for ‘incorrect behaviour’ after lashing out at a spectator who got too close to the Briton’s group on the Col de Peyresourde.
The incident was captured by TV cameras and Froome could be seen striking the man with a yellow wig who was waving a Colombian flag and running alongside the riders. Froome later explained that the spectator’s flag almost went into his front wheel.
He took to Twitter to say: “Getting abuse for the hand off of the spectator, camera doesn’t show his flag almost going into my front wheel & across my handlebars! 😡”
Froome also offered an apology in Spanish to the fan.
The two-time Tour de France winner went on to win yesterday’s stage and also took over the yellow jersey from Greg van Avermaet.

That’s a shocking thing to say.you can’t have pro riders hitting fans.what if the fans start hitting back.what happens then?
If a rider can simply extend his arm and hit the fan, then the fan is TOO close.

Its fantastic to see the pros hammer up hill at the speeds they do and the fans add to the whole spectacle but they need to give these lads a bit of room

Excitable fans can’t help themselves it appears, but they can ruin a GC riders years of training by running too close in a tight space increasing the potential for a crash! Whilst I don’t agree with violence I totally get where Froomey was coming from. Lesson learnt by the so called fan hopefully.
Some of those fans,,, I think the riders need to be carrying jousting lances

That’s really just a slap on the wrist so it doesn’t look like they condone it, 200 is nothing compared to some fines. I still think he was quite right to whack him.
Froome trains his whole life and this halfwit trying to get his face on tv gets in his way. Froome should have got off his bike and gave him a proper hiding. Organisers need to do more about making the road clear for the riders.

it is an utter disgrace the fan was too close what if that fan had tripped and fell into the path of froome and then froome had to swerve think of the carnage that could have happened, the fans need to be kept back

Why do so call fans go to the tour to try savatage the race froome is a fine rider of his time and could have being killed if that flag pole went tru the spokes that fan got lucky it was just a bunch he got should have kicked the shot out of him and get a ban from going to races like soccer fans
