Xin Wang and his Keyi Look Cycling Team have been disqualified from the Tour of Hainan (2.HC) after Wang attacked two support staff from the Swiss National team. The incident took place during yesterday’s seventh stage of the race.

In footage of the incident, Wang can be seen punching and kicking the first member of the Swiss team before attacking the second man. He then goes to one of the team cars to get a track pump which was taken from him before it could be used as a weapon.

The Chinese rider was apparently furious after an incident involving the Swiss team car, although footage of what actually happened is unclear. Wang was subsequently kicked off the race and the organisers then decided to disqualify the while team. Wang had been sitting in 67th place on GC prior to Stage 7.

The race organisers later released the following statement.

“Following the incident post stage 7 involving rider Wang Xin, the organizing committee of the Tour of Hainan decided, in agreement with the Chinese Cycling Association and the commissaires panel, to disqualify from the race the entire Keyi Look team before further action to be taken by CCA. The team was instructed to leave the island of Hainan on the spot and will not be welcomed back at the Tour of Hainan. In any race circumstances, every participant must follow the rules of the UCI and the CCA and refrain from any violent or disrespectful behaviour that would damage the image of the sport. Wang’s behavior is not acceptable and doesn’t reflect Chinese cycling. Hainan people are known for being very friendly. The image and the reputation of the Tour of Hainan cannot be tarnished by such improper behavior. Fighting will never be permitted in this event.”
