The Canadian National Road Race Championships took place in Ottawa yesterday and victory went to the only rider who managed to stay upright on the final corner.
Bruno Langlois (Garneau – Québecor) was one of four riders who were clear on the final lap of the 180-kilometre race and going into the final corner with 280 metres left, Langlois sat in last position.
Matteo Dal-Cin (Silber Pro Cycling) led into the corner, but took it too fast and slid out taking his team-mate Ben Perry and Will Routley (Rally Cycling) with him.
Langlois avoided the crash and went on to take the win. Perry remounted to finish in second place while Routley, whose bike was badly damaged ran across the line with his bike.
“I tried to attack at the end because I don’t have a good sprint, but the others guys were too strong. At the end I think the others guys went too fast into the last corner and unfortunately they crashed, so I was able to come around,” Langlois told therecord.com after the race.
Benjamin Perry (@benjefperry) uploaded the following video of the crash to Twitter.
