The café chain owner who was revealed as the driver who threatened a cyclist in an incredible foul-mouthed tirade in London has apologised. 50 year-old Jason Wells from Australia made the following statement.
“In response to a video of an incident I was involved in on the 14 March 2015, I would like to apologise for any offence caused. My behaviour was unacceptable and regardless of the situation, I shouldn’t react like that. I fully appreciate that cyclists have as much right to the road as any other road users. I will be making no further comment at this time.”
His apology follows on from a backlash from cyclists and others who have said that they will not venture near any of his cafés again. Numerous messages have been posted on the Facebook page for his chain expressing disgust at his actions. Many people on social media have questioned the motives for the chef’s apology, with it being claimed that the reason behind his statement is to prevent further damage to his business, rather than genuine contrition.
During the incident, Wells ranted: “I’ll call the ******* police. Did you thump my car you ****? I’ll ******* kill you, ****. ‘I’ll smash your ******* teeth down your throat.”
