We previously published an article about Bike Mine, an invention by Yannick Read to deter bike theft.
When tripped by a thief, BIKE MINE detonates a 150db blast of sound which can be used for protecting your bicycle. The product was just one of a series of bike-related inventions from Read.
Amongst his other inventions were the world’s loudest bike horn, the cycle path gritting bike, an urban cloaking device called Biskiple, which is a fake skip for storing and preventing bikes from theft and also a flying bicycle.
Now Read has created an alternative to a cargo bike. His wheelie bin bicycle trailer was built on a budget of £50.
An article about the trailer on the eta.co.uk website provides more detail about the project.
“With our £50 we bought a new 240-litre wheelie bin for £37, a length of 22 mm copper pipe for £11, a pipe fitting and a handful of nuts and bolts. The only tools required are a hacksaw and a drill. The result is a 240-litre bicycle trailer that is cheap to build and easy to store – when you are back home after shopping or the school run, simply park the wheelie bin trailer next to your real bins.”
