Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky) is the latest rider to be linked with an attempt to break the World Hour Record. The Spanish newspaper Diario de Mallorca has suggested that the Englishman will make an attempt on the record next Summer. In recent months, Jens Voigt and then Matthias Brändle have both broken the record which has been given a new lease of life. It has been suggested that he will make his attempt in the Palma Arena velodrome in Majorca, where Wiggins spends much of his time.

Brändle pushed the record out to 51.852 kilometres following on from Voigt’s distance of 51.110 kilometres covered in mid-September. Wiggins is a more renowned time triallist than both, and it will be interesting to see what distance he can cover, of he does attempt the record.
