The Bora-Argon 18 team appeared confident about Sam Bennett’s recovery from his injuries sustained during his bad crash on the opening stage of the Tour de France.

They outlined that they have been working hard on his recovery and he appears to be in better shape than he was prior to yesterday’s stage.

Directeur Sportif Enrico Poitschke outlined that all they’re hoping for today is for Bennett to get through the stage: “Today is a flat stage and we’re happy about that. Sam is suffering and we hope today he can stay in the peloton. We don’t expect any more.”

When asked about yesterday’s stage, Bennett said: “It was a long day, it was eventful. I just couldn’t do any accelerations and could just ride tempo. When the pace went up at the end, I couldn’t accelerate out of corners. I just tried to limit my losses and make the time cut.”

He seemed to have a reasonable night’s sleep though as he said: “It was OK. I was able to get comfortable and get a good night’s sleep.”

Today, the riders face a mostly flat 223.5 kilometres stage from Granville to Angers.
