Ben King (Cannondale-Garmin) has posted a photo showing the road rash sustained in a crash in the Tour of Utah. The crash happened on a straight, fast descent off the Trappers Loop climb with 70 kilometres remaining of the 176-kilometre third stage, causing numerous riders to go down.

According to the Trek Factory Racing website, the crash happened due to a touch of wheels between Trek riders Frank Schleck and Matthew Busche, when the riders were travelling at 80kmph.

Busche later said, “It was not a fun crash. It was one of the worst, most painful crashes I’ve had, but thankfully it looks to be mostly topical and bruising. It really stinks to crash out of a race I hoped to do well in, but hopefully I can bounce back for Colorado.”

He was unable to continue in the race. Amongst others caught up in the crash were King and Gavin Mannion (Jelly Belly p/b Maxxis).

King subsequently tweeted “At 1st I was so angry at the guys who crashed in front of me. Now Im so thankful to be ok. Only thing worse than crashing is quitting.”

Below is his photo showing his injuries.
