Ireland’s Ben Healy finished a very impressive 15th in the U23 Time Trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire this afternoon. What makes the performance more impressive is that he was the youngest rider competing in the race.

Denmark’s Mikkel Bjerg was fastest in the 40.3-kilometre finishing in a time of 40′ 20″, one second ahead of Ian Garrison of the United States with Brandon McNulty, also of the United States a further second down. Healy finished 1′ 58″ down on Bjerg. It was a remarkable third U23 title for Bjerg who will race with UAE Team Emirates next season.

Healy’s impressive performance follows on from his stage win at the Tour de l’Avenir (2.NCup) last month and next up for the 19 year-old is the U23 World Road Race on Friday.

The other Irish rider competing – Michael O’Loughlin – suffered misfortune as he was amongst a number of riders to crash and he went on to finish in 41st place.
