On Friday, Cycling Ireland’s Mark Downey won gold in the Men’s Points Race in the third round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in the Alcides Nieto Patino Velodrome in Cali, Colombia. He has since uploaded a video going behind the scenes of his achievement, as he prepares for the race, the race itself and the podium ceremony.

It was the second consecutive World Cup win for the rider from Dromore having won the round in Apeldoorn Netherlands late last year. Downey man is now leading the World Cup ranking in this event.

In addition to his two World Cup wins, twenty year-old Downey also won silver in the European Championships in the Points Race as both a Junior and U23 rider.

The affable and talented rider demonstrated his physical and mental strength by taking three sprint points in the 120 lap race, and lapping the field.
