Danish rider Casper Pedersen has signed a three-year contract with Team Sunweb, the WorldTour team announced today.

The 22 year-old rode for Aqua Blue Sport this year, but following the withdrawal of the Irish Pro Continental team from the sport, he was left without a contract for next season. He is the first rider from Aqua Blue to have been confirmed to have signed a new contract.

In addition to the signing of Pedersen, Team Sunweb also announced the signing of Swiss rider Marc Hirschi who joins from the Team Sunweb Development Team. The 20 year-old has also signed a three-year contract.

Pedersen has spent the past four years riding at Continental and Pro Continental level having previously raced for Team Giant – Castelli and Riwal Platform Cycling Team.

Notable performances for the young Dane include the 2017 European road race title, a stage win in the 2017 Tour of Denmark, multiple top 10’s at the 4 Jours de Dunkerque as well as the youth classification win. Upon joining Team Sunweb, Pedersen will have the support to develop in the Flemish Classics and the team’s sprint train, whilst focusing on his long-term growth as a rider.

Pedersen said: “I am really happy to sign with Team Sunweb. I’ve been wanting to become a part of this team for years, so it’s truly a dream come true for me. I can’t wait to get to work with a new team of riders and staff and I look forward to continuing my development as a rider and playing a part in what I hope are many successes together.”

Team Sunweb coach Marc Reef said: “We are very happy to have Casper join the team. We have been following him for quite a while now and we believe there is a lot of potential for him in the Flemish Classics and also in our sprint train. He will start in a support role and gradually grow in our way of working from there.”
