Aqua Blue Sport are amongst the five teams given wildcard entries to this year’s Amstel Gold Race. It will mark the Irish team’s first start at the Dutch classic and follows on from last week’s news that theyhad received a wildcard spot for Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij, Wanty-Groupe Gobert, Israel Cycling Academy, and Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise are the other four teams who will join the 18 WorldTour teams on the start line of the 53th edition of the race. Course director Leo van Vliet will consider whether or not to add two more Wildcards.

The Amstel Gold Race takes place on Sunday, April 15th, starting in Maastricht and finishing in Vilt-Valkenburg. This year’s race covers 260 kilometres and contains 35 climbs. Last year’s race was won by Philippe Gilbert
