On the same day that the Tinkoff-Saxo team wrote an open letter to the Vuelta organisers Unipublic and also the UCI asking for action following the recent incident whereby one of the race motorbikes collided with Peter Sagan, another one of their team members has been hit today.

Sergio Paulinho has also been hit by a motorbike today and has apparently required 17 stitches. He subsequently abandoned the race.

The news was posted by the team on Twitter.

Tinkoff tweet

This is the latest in a series of incidents involving cyclists being hit by cars and motorbikes at races this year.

Team owner Oleg Tinkov has now said that he is considering pulling the team from the race. He tweeted: “I’m considering now to take the team off the #Vuelta2015. Boycott #ASO for this. They pay us NO money for the race and even damage riders.”
