Former World Hour Record holder Alex Dowsett has posted details on Twitter of a frightening near-miss he had this week, which he has asked to be shared.

The Essex rider was training on Sunday when the driver of a red Porsche Cayenne overtook another oncoming car on Dowsett’s side of the road.

“Needless to say, had I not reacted with a veer to the left, a deep breath in and pulling my shoulders and elbows in, then I likely wouldn’t be writing this tweet or post, perhaps not a tweet or post ever again.” he recounts.

“I was in tears afterwards. It’s the closest I’ve ever been to a career or life-ending crash and it’s scared the living daylights out of me, made me question why we do what we do and if the consequences are worth it.”
