Swiss Cycling announced this morning its decision to host the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling World Championships in Zurich. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) awarded this event to the German-speaking region of Switzerland during the meeting of its Management Committee in Innsbruck (Austria) last September.

The UCI sated that they are highly confident of Zurich’s bid committee’s ability “to organise a high-quality UCI World Championships, particularly in terms of the appeal of its courses, participation of the public and TV production. Indeed, Zurich has a great deal of experience in the organisation of cycling events.”

In the last 10 years, Switzerland has successfully organised several UCI World Championships:
• 2009 UCI Road World Championships (Mendrisio),
• 2015 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships (Nottwil),
• 2018 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships (Lenzerheide).

In addition, next year Switzerland will organise the UCI Road World Championships in Aigle and Martigny and the Cyclo-cross World Championships in Dübendorf. The 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling World Championships will be the first to combine the Road and Para-cycling events.
